Southern Odisha is experiencing severe rainfall, causing significant distress in Koraput and Malkangiri districts. The Godavari River is overflowing, and the relentless downpour has left residents in fear. Koraput district has endured 12 consecutive days of rain, recording an unprecedented 949.1 mm in a single day. The heavy rains have triggered landslides in the hilly areas, exacerbating the disaster.
Malkangiri is also severely affected, with roads washed away due to the torrential rains. Waterlogged roads, especially in the Bayapada Ghat area, have disrupted transportation, impacting 188 villages. Residents have resorted to constructing makeshift wooden poles to cross flooded roads, risking their safety.
The continuous rainfall has disrupted electricity and mobile services across many areas, further isolating the affected communities. The situation remains dire as the region grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster.
