Rohit might be away from T-20 international

Indian ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma is won’t play T20 again. According to BCCI sources, he had extensive discussions with the chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar about his future in the short format before the start of the one-day World Cup. Rohit has not played a single match in the smaller format since his exit from the T20 World Cup semi-final in November 2022.

He has voluntarily stayed away from this format for the most part as he is more focused on the one-day World Cup. Since then, Hardik Pandya has often led the Indian team in T20.

The 36-year-old Indian captain Rohit Sharma had played 148 20-20 matches and scored 3853 runs at a strike rate of around 140. He himself voluntarily stayed away from 20-20. Now in the Indian team, four openers Shudhaman Gill, Jashashwi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Rituraj Gaekwad have performed well in the IPL. If the young players don’t perform well, the selectors or the senior BCCI officials may ask Rohit to reconsider his current approach. At this stage of his career, Rohit will want to ensure he stays injury free for the rest of his career as well as handling his boatload of work.

Three formats of cricket along with IPL is being impossible for a player to play every year. Seven Tests matches to be played between December and March 2024 this year, the Indian captain’s focus will be mainly on red ball cricket. He still has a realistic chance of leading India to another World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2025.
