
Bhubaneswar : Health Department is now taking new efforts for special treatment for third gender in the state. For this, medical board will be formed at the district level. It will help the their gender in Gender reassignment surgery (GRS). The Health Secretary has given an order regarding this. The Commission has also directed to provide financial assistance to the third genders in government hospitals if they undergo gender reassignment surgery.
The Medical Board will be responsible for the necessary health care solutions for the third gender. A medical board will be formed at the district level. The National Human Rights Commission has directed the state and central governments. It is often seen that the third gender is often neglected. However, keeping this in mind, medical boards will be formed in every district. The health secretary has instructed all the CDMOs and PHOs.
As mentioned in the letter, the medical board will take responsibility for the necessary healthcare solutions for the third gender in the state. The DMO will be a member of the medical board along with clinical psychologists including surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry. Also, if the third gender requests any problem, then a committee meeting will be organized and a decision will be taken.
If transsexuals or third genders decide on issues related to gender reassignment surgery, this will also be addressed. The Commission has directed to provide financial assistance to them if they undergoes gender reassignment surgery in a government hospital. This steps has been taken to provide safety and security to the transgender people as they are neglected many times in many places before.
