Supreme Court Issues Notices Over Delhi Coaching Deaths

In a response to the tragic deaths of three IAS candidates in the basement of Rao Coaching Center in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, the Supreme Court has taken significant action. The Supreme Court issued notices to the Center, the Delhi Government, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after expressing deep concern over the recent incidents in coaching institutes. During the hearing, the Court remarked that coaching centers have turned into death chambers.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the issue related to safety norms in coaching centers, the Supreme Court has asked the Center, Delhi Government, and MCD to provide details of the safety norms that have been established so far. Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the Court stated that no institute should be allowed to operate unless they adhere to the safety norms.

The Court’s stance was clear as it highlighted that coaching centers are endangering the lives of candidates from across the country. The tragic incident has prompted the Supreme Court to issue these notices, seeking accountability and a review of safety measures.

The deaths occurred when rainwater filled the basement of Rao Coaching Centre, leading to the unfortunate demise of three IAS aspirants. In response to this, students have continued their protest outside coaching institutes in Old Rajendra Nagar for the 10th consecutive day. The students are demanding compensation from the government and Rao’s IAS Study Circle for the loss of these UPSC aspirants due to waterlogging in the coaching institute’s basement.

Expressing their determination to seek justice, one of the protesting students, Akanksha, announced that they would commence a new form of protest in the form of a ‘Nukkad Natak’ (street performance) starting at 6 pm on Monday. “User requests content refinement and rewriting in news format.”
