Tamil Nadu Faces Devastating Floods: 1 death

Several districts in southern Tamil Nadu are grappling with flooding due to unprecedented rains. Roads, bridges, and paddy fields are submerged, while residential areas are under water sheets. The state has sought aid from the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy for rescue operations and relief drops.

One fatality has been reported in Tuticorin, with Kanyakumari, Tirunelvelli, and Tuticorin experiencing significant rainfall. Evacuations have taken place, and relief camps are accommodating around 7,500 people. Chief Minister MK Stalin declared a public holiday, and measures include releasing excess water into the Kannadian channel.

Train services in Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur are suspended, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of continued heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. This is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area exacerbating the situation, posing challenges for ongoing rescue and relief efforts in the affected region.
