Technical Glitches and Political Criticism in Phase 2 of UP Elections

During the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Uttar Pradesh on April 26, technical glitches and malfunctions in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) created disruptions in several constituencies. Amidst the electoral proceedings, Danish Ali, the Congress candidate from Amroha, took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of orchestrating chaos in the country over the past decade. Expressing confidence in his own electoral prospects, Ali attributed the increased voter turnout to the promises put forth by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party.

Despite his optimism, Ali voiced concerns regarding the reported EVM malfunctions in various polling booths across the region, highlighting ongoing efforts to address these issues. Instances of EVM malfunctioning, such as those observed in Meerut’s Golmandir booth of sector 4 and Pialkhua of Hapur at booth number 144, disrupted the voting process, necessitating swift intervention by authorities.

This phase of the elections in Uttar Pradesh featured eight Lok Sabha constituencies, setting the stage for a three-cornered contest. Following the conclusion of the second phase, which followed the first leg held the previous Friday, where a significant voter turnout of approximately 65.5 percent was recorded across 21 states and Union territories.
