The Sri Lanka cricket board sacked after the humiliating defeat against India

In the ODI World Cup 2023, the Sri Lankan cricket team is showing very poor performance. After seeing such kind of performance of its team, the Sri Lankan government has dismissed its entire cricket board.

Everyone expected better performance from the Sri Lankan team in the ODI World Cup 2023, but they disappointed all with their game. In the match played against India at Mumbai ground, the team scored only 55 runs and had to face a huge defeat of 302 runs. Now the Sri Lankan government has taken major action against its cricket board by suspending it. The government has also formed an interim committee of 7 members. Arjun Ranatunga, captain of the 1996 World Cup winning Sri Lankan team, has been appointed as the chairman of this committee.

After the very disappointing performance of the Sri Lankan cricket team in the World Cup, the fans there had protested in front of the cricket board’s office. After this, Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, Roshan Ranasinghe, issued an order to dissolve the Cricket Board on the morning of 6 November and also announced a seven-member interim committee. While Arjun Ranatunga will be the chairman of this committee, two retired judges from the Supreme Court, retired judges from the High Court will also be included among the other members. In this order, the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka has also made many serious allegations against the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.

Despite the embarrassing defeat against India in the final match of Asia Cup 2023, everyone expected a better performance from the Sri Lankan team in the World Cup. The team had to face defeat in its first three matches. After this, they were able to get their first win in the match against Netherlands and in the very next match, the team also defeated defending champions England by 8 wickets. But after this they had to face one-sided defeats against Afghanistan and India. It has now become very difficult for Sri Lanka to reach the semi-finals.
