The state is experiencing severe cold, temperature below 10°C in six cities

Bhubaneswar: In recent days, a severe cold wave has gripped the entire state of Odisha. During the morning hours, most regions are experiencing chilly temperatures. Some areas in the interior witnessing frost in the early hours of the day.

On Saturday, the temperature in six cities of the state remained below 10 degree Celsius, with the majority of urban areas recording temperatures below 15 degree Celsius. The situation is expected to persist for the next few days. Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a warning about a sudden cold spell in several regions around the 17th and 18th of the month.

According to information provided by the Meteorological Centre, Sundargarh recorded the lowest night-time temperature at 8.3 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the state. Following closely, Udayagiri in Kandhamal registered 8.4 degree Celsius, while Phulbani, Koraput, Bhadrak’s Ranital, and Rourkela recorded temperatures of 8.5, 9.5, 9.6, and 9.8 degree Celsius, respectively. Several places including Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar, and Jharsuguda, set a record low temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead to the 18th, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda, Koraput, and Rayagada are expected to experience moderate cold conditions. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are likely to witness a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, a record for the first time in the current winter season. Bhubaneswar had set a record temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack recorded a night-time temperature of 13.5 degree Celsius.
