
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse, the world’s largest and modern center for international diamond and jewelry business, on Sunday.
The Surat Diamond Bourse, situated in Khajod village near Surat city, boasts the title of the world’s largest office complex with over 6.7 million square feet of floor space. It is destined to become a global hub for the trade of both rough and polished diamonds, along with jewelry, according to an official statement.

The Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) is a significant project with various features:
- Facilities: It includes a ‘Customs Clearance House’ for import and export, a jewelry mall for retail business, and services like international banking and safe vaults.
- Occupancy: Many diamond traders, including those from Mumbai, have already acquired offices through the auction process.
- DREAM City: The SDB is part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City project.
- Inception: The groundbreaking ceremony was performed by former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel in February 2015.
- Size: Covering 67 lakh square feet, the SDB is the world’s largest office building dedicated to diamond trading, hosting around 4,500 offices.
- Structure: The mega-structure consists of nine towers, each with 15 floors, offering office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft.
