the Commissionerate Police have arrested the mastermind of a notorious chain snatchers’ gang, Ram Kumar, from Uttar Pradesh, and two local gang members, Akash Samal and Sheetal Behera, from the Twin Cities. The Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police has busted the Bawariya gang, known for its rampant chain snatching activities, with the arrest of its mastermind Ram Kumar and two local gang members.
The arrests come after the registration of two cases – one at Kharvel Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar in April and another a few weeks ago at Saheed Nagar police station. DCP Prateek Singh praised the Special Squad for their successful operation, saying, “The Bawariya gang has been a significant problem in the twin cities, with numerous complaints lodged about their activities.”
The police have recovered two chains and a stolen bike from Ram Kumar, and two gold chains from Akash Samal and Sheetal Behera. The Bawariya gang, belonging to the Bawariya tribe of Uttar Pradesh, travels by train, steals a bike in each city, and then commits a series of chain snatchings and other thefts.
