Three IAS Aspirants Die in Delhi Flooded Basement

Heavy rains flooded the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajendra, Delhi, on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of three IAS aspirants. The victims, Naveen Dalwani 28 years old , Tanya Soni 25 years old , and Shreya Jacob 25 years old , were trapped in the building’s basement library when the water surged in. The police have registered a criminal case and detained two individuals in connection with the incident.

The tragedy occurred while several students were studying in the basement library. A sudden influx of water trapped them inside, leading to a rescue operation involving ropes. However, Naveen, Tanya, and Shreya could not be found, prompting the police and Damascus forces to be alerted.

“We received a call at 7 PM about students missing due to water flooding the basement,” said a Damascus Police official. “By the time we arrived, the basement was completely submerged. A joint team of Damascus forces, Delhi Police, and the NDRF conducted a search operation and recovered the bodies. The search was complicated by floating furniture in the water,” he added.

Delhi Police DCP Harshvardhan stated, “We are investigating the cause of the sudden flooding. It appears a large volume of water rushed into the basement, trapping the students inside the library. We have registered a criminal case and detained two individuals for questioning.” The Delhi government has ordered a magistrate-level inquiry into the incident. Delhi Minister Atishi announced on ‘X’ that those responsible will face consequences.

Following the incident, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sahadde and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj visited the site and criticized the AAP government for negligence. They claimed that local residents had repeatedly complained to the AAP MLA about clogged drains, but no action was taken. Sahadde and Swaraj demanded the immediate resignation of Jal Board Minister Atishi and local MLA Durgesh Tishak.

In response to the incident, students from the coaching center protested against the authorities, raising slogans and demanding accountability from the coaching center’s management.
