Union Home Ministry Takes Action to Combat Digital Arrests and Cyber Fraud

The rise in digital arrests and cyber fraud cases continues to pose a serious threat across the country. Scammers are increasingly targeting people, robbing them of their money and clearing their accounts. In response to this growing menace, the Union Home Ministry has taken significant action.

The Ministry has blocked 17,000 suspicious WhatsApp accounts linked to digital arrest and cyber fraud activities. A high-level committee, led by the Internal Security Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is overseeing the operation, with the cyber wing of the Ministry actively monitoring and taking action. In addition to blocking WhatsApp accounts, the Ministry has also shut down 709 mobile apps involved in these fraudulent activities.

This year alone, over 6,000 cases of digital arrest have been registered, with more than 6 lakh mobile phones linked to cyber fraud and digital arrest crimes. Given the severity of the issue, the Home Ministry is considering implementing even stricter measures to curb these crimes in the future.
