Vigilance Seizes Properties of Joint Commissioner

Vigilance officials have arrested Ramachandra Mishra, the Joint Commissioner of the Unemployment Department, on charges of misappropriating non-revenue assets. During raids conducted at his various properties, officials uncovered extensive assets, including 52 plots, six buildings, and two flats across the state. Mishra also owns a rice mill.

Of the 52 plots, two are in Sambalpur, three in Balangir, and 47 in Subarnapur. His six buildings include a duplex in Ayginia, Bhubaneswar; two three-storied buildings and a one-storied house in Balangir; a two-storied building in Burla, Sambalpur; and a one-storied building in Subarnapur. Additionally, Mishra owns a two-bedroom flat in Chandrama Complex, Kharvel, Bhubaneswar, and another in Badriprasad Apartments, Bargarh. Despite owning multiple properties, Mishra resides in a rented house in Dharam Vihar.

Mishra’s assets also include a defunct rice mill and a farmhouse in Subarnapur, ₹22 million in bank deposits, 230 grams of gold, 370 grams of silver, three two-wheelers, and household furniture worth ₹11.25 lakhs. The valuation of his properties and investments in mutual funds and other avenues is ongoing.

Mishra began his career as a sub-inspector in the unemployment department and rose to the position of Joint Commissioner over 30 years. His arrest comes just eight months before his retirement. In a related development, vigilance officials also arrested Sunil Raut, the Chief Construction Engineer of the Lower Suktel project in Balangir, for corruption. Raut was found to own 34 plots and other properties.
