Violence escalates in Manipur as angry crowds take to the streets after authorities discover the bodies of six missing persons. Protesters clashed with security forces, leading to widespread destruction, including the burning of houses and looting of BJP and Congress offices in Babupura, Jibiram district.
On Sunday, security forces intervened to control the situation, resorting to indiscriminate firing. In the chaos, 20-year-old Kay Athouba was shot and later succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The incident occurred about 500 meters from the Jiribam police station.
To contain the unrest, security forces established 107 checkpoints across both hilly and valley areas and enforced strict security measures in sensitive regions.
