Yogesh Bahadur Khurania Set to Lead Odisha Police as New DG

Bhubaneswar – A major leadership transition is imminent for the Odisha Police as 1990 batch IPS officer Yogesh Bahadur Khurania is poised to be appointed as the new Director General of Police (DG). This development follows the Central Cabinet Committee on Recruitment’s decision to end Khurania’s deputation early and return him to his home cadre in Odisha.

The Union Ministry of Karma has confirmed that Khurania, currently the Special DG of the BSF, will resume his role in Odisha immediately. This move, based on a July 26 proposal from the Union Home Ministry, suggests that Khurania is set to assume the position of DG for the state.

Currently, Arun Kumar Shadangi, also a 1990 batch IPS officer, is serving as the temporary DG of Odisha. Shadangi has been in this role since December 31 under the previous BJG government. Despite the Mohan Majhi administration being in office for over a month and a half, no permanent appointment has been made, nor has the process for selecting a new DG been initiated.

Khurania, who has been on central deputation since 2021, brings extensive experience to the role. His distinguished career includes serving as Commissioner of Police in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate, SP in various districts including Nayagarh, Rourkela, and Jajpur, as well as DIG Uttarachal and Southachal, and Director of the Biju Patnaik Police Training Academy. With Khurania’s return to Odisha, the state government is expected to proceed with the formal appointment of him as the new DG of Police.
