10 Villages Cut Off as Floodwaters Surge in Balasore

Storm ‘Dana’ has triggered a flood situation in Balasore district, as heavy rains make conditions increasingly unmanageable. The rapid flow of water has cut off 10 villages from the outside world.

In the Mayurbhanj district, heavy rainfall due to Cyclone ‘Dana’ has compounded the flooding in Balasore. Floodwaters are surging through the Bushabalang and Son rivers, affecting many areas in Baltimore County. Villages such as Begunia, Kashan, Khadpole, Kalyanpur, and others in Niligiri and Remuna are submerged.

The road connecting Begunia to Totapada has washed away, isolating more than 10 villages. Additionally, the Panchalingeshwar Shivpitha has become submerged due to rain in the Kuldiya sanctuary.

While Cyclone ‘Dana’ has weakened into a depression, rainfall remains active across North Odisha. Meteorologists predict that precipitation will shift northwest over Odisha and further weaken into a well-marked low pressure by today. Consequently, rains will continue in Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj, with the situation likely to deteriorate further.
