24 Liberal MPs Demand Trudeau’s Resignation Amid Fears of Election Defeat

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is facing opposition within his own party. Liberal Party MPs have given Trudeau until October 28 to step down as Prime Minister. Angry leaders told Trudeau to either step down or be ready to face rebellion.

According to media reports, 24 MPs of Trudeau’s party have demanded the removal of the PM before the elections. For this, they have also signed a demand letter. This demand letter signed by the MPs has not been made public yet. In this letter, the MPs have demanded Trudeau to resign before the elections in view of the threat of defeat in next year’s general elections.

MPs have urged Trudeau not to run for a fourth term as prime minister. No Canadian leader has won a fourth term in the past 100 years.

This challenge for Trudeau comes at a time when his government is embroiled in a major diplomatic tension with India over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

MPs said – Trudeau should give up his claim like Biden. PM Trudeau also met 20 Liberal Party MPs in a closed room on Wednesday. In this meeting, British Columbia MP Patrick Wheeler from the Liberal Party said that PM’s resignation is necessary to win the election next year.

Wheeler said that in the US, the Democratic Party was far behind in the elections under Biden’s leadership. After this, he gave up his claim and put forward Kamala Harris’ name. This strengthened the lead of the Democratic Party. He said that in Canada too, the Liberal Party can make a comeback in the same way.

Ken MacDonald, a Liberal MP from Newfoundland, Canada, said Trudeau needs to listen to the people. He said there are many of his colleagues who are considering running in the upcoming election but are nervous because of poor polling numbers and the Liberals’ falling popularity.

Currently, the Liberal Party has 153 MPs in the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada.

Earlier this month, the Trudeau government’s ally New Democratic Party (NDP) withdrew its support. Since then, Trudeau has been running the government without a majority after his coalition partner, the New Democratic Party (NDP), withdrew its support. The NDP is the party of pro-Khalistani Canadian Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh.
