RSS Opposes Using Caste-Based Census Data for Politics

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has taken a firm stand on the caste-based population census, aligning with BJP’s ideology. The RSS views the census as crucial for shaping welfare schemes but warns against using it for electoral purposes. They label the issue as highly sensitive and stress its importance for national unity and integrity.

RSS publicity chief Sunil Ambedkar stated, “Caste-based census is a sensitive issue. It is vital for national unity and requires the highest level of care. The government sometimes needs this data, so we follow established procedures.”

Ambedkar made these remarks after a three-day conclave in Palakkad, Kerala. He opposed using caste census data for political gain and argued that it should serve only community welfare. “We must not turn caste-based census data into a political weapon,” Ambedkar insisted.

Opposition parties, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, have pushed for a nationwide caste-based census. They argue that it would improve policy decisions and boost representation for backward classes.

In response to Ambedkar’s statement, Congress criticized both the BJP and RSS, accusing them of ignoring the welfare of backward classes.
