Former MLA Soumyarjan Patnaik Defends Government Amid Rising Criticism

At Bharatpur police station, the police subjected Indian Army Major Gurvushla Singh and his captives to brutal torture. Opposition parties, BJJ and Congress, blame the state government for the incident. Former Khadpada MLA Soumyarjan Patnaik sharply criticizes the BJJ for its role.

He argued that one incident alone does not define the state’s law and order situation and called for more time for the current government. He stressed that it’s unfair to compare the 25-year government to a 100-day government.

Patnaik also pointed out that individuals who previously stayed silent are now holding press conferences and criticizing the government, seemingly ignoring their own failures. He suggested the government be given 2,000 days, and if no changes are visible by December, then they should hold it accountable. The BJJ has not responded to Patnaik’s criticism yet.

Opposition leader Naveen Patnaik voiced concern over the police’s actions against the major and his constable, demanding a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also raised their voices, with Rahul tweeting about the rise in crimes against women under the BJP government in Odisha. He questioned the law and order system, urging strict action against those responsible and called for justice as an example of safety, particularly for women in India.
