The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies daily, with Lebanese civilians suffering the consequences. Late on Friday, Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, shortly after Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke at the UN General Assembly.
The attacks jolted Beirut as Israel specifically targeted Hezbollah’s headquarters. Reports indicate that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was present during the strikes, and some sources claim he may have died, although this remains unconfirmed.
Israeli forces struck six buildings in the raid, killing numerous Hezbollah militants. While media outlets suggest that Nasrallah is among the casualties, Israel has yet to verify this information.
A source close to Hezbollah reported to Reuters that they lost contact with Hassan Nasrallah after the Israeli assault on a southern suburb of Beirut on Friday evening, raising concerns about his status.
In contrast, Hezbollah announced that Hassan Nasrallah is safe following the attack. The death toll from the airstrikes is expected to rise as rescue teams continue to search through the debris of the six targeted buildings. After the initial explosion, Israeli forces launched additional strikes in other areas of the southern suburbs.
The Israeli army confirmed the death of Hezbollah’s missile unit commander, Mohammad Ali Ismail, in the attacks.
Meanwhile, just before the assault on Hezbollah’s headquarters, Prime Minister Netanyahu reiterated his commitment at the United Nations to continue the campaign against Hezbollah.
