Former Diplomat Blames Trudeau for Deteriorating India-Canada Relations

On the India-Canada dispute, former diplomat Anil Trigunayat said that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is responsible for the deteriorating relations between the two countries.

Trigunayat said that Trudeau promoted anti-India extremists, terrorists and separatist groups.

Speaking to ANI, he said, I think the relations between India and Canada have deteriorated a lot and the entire credit for this goes to the current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has made it his goal to promote and flatter anti-India extremists, terrorists and separatist groups and is supporting them and is unnecessarily making various allegations against India and the killing of a terrorist named Nijjar and since then he has not given any proof.

Former IFS officer and President of India Habitat Centre Bhaswati Mukherjee said that the statement of Canada is very provocative.

The scathing statement that has come from Canada was very provocative. It said our High Commissioner to Canada was the representative of the President of India in Canada and he is a suspect in our murder case, which means they are neither honouring the Indian treaty nor are they giving any indication that they will ensure his safety.

Mukherjee further said India reacted strongly because it is an independent sovereign country.

“Because we are not a banana republic but a proud, democratic, independent, sovereign country, we reacted strongly because no country in the world, unless it is a banana republic, would have reacted in any other way,” he said.

India and Canada are grappling with an unprecedented diplomatic crisis after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian state agents were involved in the killing of Nijjar in Canada. India has rejected Canada’s allegations as “absurd” and “politically motivated”.
