Storm ‘Dana’ Moves at 18 km per hour in Bay of Bengal; Severe Storm Expected Soon

Storm ‘Dana’ is currently moving in the Bay of Bengal at a speed of 18 km per hour for the past 6 hours. The Paradip radar image shows a clear view of the storm.

The Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Center confirms that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a storm this morning. It is now moving west-northwest at 18 km per hour. The storm currently sits 560 km from Paradip and 630 km from Sagar Island.

As it strengthens into a severe storm, it is on track to cross the coast between Odisha’s Puri and West Bengal’s Sagar Island tomorrow night or within the next 25 hours. However, the IMD has not confirmed the exact landfall location yet. Wind speeds will range between 100 and 120 km/h as the storm nears the coast. The weather centre warns that North Odisha will bear the brunt of the storm’s impact.

Authorities have issued a red alert in 7 districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall tomorrow and the following day. Due to rough seas, officials have raised danger signal number 1 at Gopalpur, Paradip, and Dhamra ports.
