Heavy rains are currently battering various parts of the state due to Cyclone ‘Dana.’ In response, the district administration has declared school holidays today in five districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Keonjhar.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red warning for Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, predicting over 20 centimetres of rainfall in these areas. District authorities have announced these closures to ensure the safety of children.
In Bhadrak, all schools will remain closed from the 1st to the 12th. Mayurbhanj has also decided to close schools, while Balasore has closed both schools and colleges. In Keonjhar, the District Education Officer has ordered all schools from 1st to 12th standard to close. Additionally, the Jajpur district administration has closed all schools and Anganwadi centres today due to the heavy rainfall. Some schools and colleges in these districts will also serve as cyclone shelters.
Cyclone ‘Dana’ is gradually weakening after making landfall last Thursday night. It transitioned from a deep depression yesterday to a depression this morning, leading to ongoing rainfall across North Odisha.
