Police arrested two BJ workers on charges of extortion and making threats on social media in Jajpur district’s Dharmachaya. They later released the individuals after questioning.
The arrested youths are Subrata Kumar Dhal, the former youth president of the Dharamchaya Constituent Assembly from Patpur village, and Manas Ranjan Mohanty, a student from Chahata village. They allegedly extorted money from a relative of Biswajit from Dewali village and issued threats online. Biswajit filed a complaint at the Dharmachaya police station.
Following the complaint, police registered a case, took both suspects into custody, and questioned them. Former MLA Pranab Balbantarai arrived at the police station upon hearing the news to discuss the situation with the officers. After issuing a notice, police released both suspects.
However, the police are conducting an incomplete investigation. The former MLA stated that if the police do not address these activities, the BJ party will escalate the complaint to senior police officials. The police have not responded to inquiries regarding the matter.
