The ongoing property dispute between YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister, Congress leader YS Sharmila, has taken a new turn. Their mother, YS Vijayamma, recently wrote a letter supporting her daughter Sharmila in the dispute. YS Vijayamma emphasized that she must speak up to defend her wronged child. Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party labelled her stance as biased.
In her letter, Vijayamma emphasized that Sharmila did not engage in the family business, yet Jagan Reddy acknowledged her selfless work in politics. She credited Sharmila’s efforts as instrumental in Jagan’s political rise, expressing the pain of seeing any injustice inflicted on her children. “As a mother, all children are equal,” she stated.
Reflecting on happier times, Vijayamma wrote, “With my husband Rajasekhar Reddy and our children, we had a happy family. I can’t understand why we are facing such hardships now. Despite my attempts to prevent this, I’m watching it unfold helplessly.” She condemned the spread of rumours about her family, stressing the negative impact on her children and the state. “Reluctantly, I have to speak up now and ask those spreading baseless claims to stop,” she urged.
Regarding the undistributed property, she explained, “My children can address this themselves. I trust God will resolve their issues.” She dismissed claims that her late husband, YS Rajasekhar, had divided his assets before his passing, clarifying that he left properties under the names of both Jagan and Sharmila but without formal division. Following YSR’s passing in 2009, Jagan and Sharmila stayed united until 2019, with Jagan paying Sharmila Rs 200 crore as per an agreement. This agreement outlined a 60-40 split in Jagan and Sharmila’s favour, although they initially shared assets equally.
After Jagan became Andhra’s Chief Minister in 2019, he proposed a business division in Vijayamma’s presence in Vijayawada. She explained that the properties given to Sharmila were not gifts but her rightful share, including assets like Bharat Cement, Sakshi Media, and YSR properties. “I have had to speak out to present the truth,” she said. She emphasized that while this is an issue between siblings, they should find a resolution.
In response, the YSR Congress Party maintained that Jagan Reddy had not demanded any property return. State Secretary SB Satish Reddy stated that Jagan shared his property with Sharmila willingly. Sharmila, however, holds no directorial roles in Jagan’s businesses. According to the party, Jagan displayed brotherly kindness by sharing a portion of the family’s assets, which the late Chief Minister had already divided between them. Jagan has never asked Sharmila to return her share.
