After the announcement of the new CM, Swati Maliwal made serious allegations against Atishi. She posted on her social media handle X, stating, “Today is a very sad day for Delhi. A woman whose family fought to save terrorist Afzal Guru from being hanged is now being made Chief Minister. Her parents even submitted mercy petitions to the President to save Afzal Guru.”
Swati continued, “According to Atishi’s family, Afzal Guru was innocent and was framed in a political conspiracy. Even though Atishi Marlena is a ‘Dummy CM’, this is still a matter of national security. May God protect Delhi!”
Gopay Rai’s Response
After Atishi’s name was finalized in the Legislative Party meeting, AAP leader Gopay Rai addressed a press conference, announcing that the decision to appoint Atishi as CM was made unanimously. He confirmed Atishi would serve as CM until the next Delhi elections.
Rai also declared that AAP would stake its claim to form the new government immediately. The decision regarding the Delhi Cabinet would be taken in the coming days, and elections are expected in October or November. He also criticized BJP and the central government, claiming they conspired to destabilize AAP from the start.
Rai further mentioned that Kejriwal would resign at 4:30 pm. He clarified that two candidates, Atishi and Kailash Gehlot, were in the race for CM, dismissing rumors that Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, would take the position. Saurabh Bhardwaj had earlier confirmed that Sunita Kejriwal was not interested in becoming CM.
