The weather forecast is accurate. The Southwest Monsoon has officially returned to Odisha in Bilamwar as scheduled. As of today, the monsoon is making its presence felt in nearly all districts of the state, as reported by the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Center.
The bulletin from the center indicates that the South-West Monsoon is expected in districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. The monsoon has fully withdrawn from these regions. However, some areas in Nuapada and Kalahandi districts are still experiencing the monsoon’s effects.
Typically, the Southwest Monsoon departs from Odisha by the end of September, but this year, it is withdrawing in mid-October—about 15 days later than usual.
This season, the Southwest Monsoon first struck Odisha in June, entering through Malkangiri district before gradually covering other areas. However, not all districts received rain initially, delaying agricultural activities. Eventually, heavy rainfall occurred, leading to flooding in North Odisha. Recently, rainfall has diminished, and the monsoon is now retreating due to favorable weather conditions.
