The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will start a new membership drive on September 2, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The campaign, called ‘Sangthan Parv,’ will run for two months in two phases.
BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde announced that the drive will start with BJP President JP Nadda renewing Modi’s membership. Tawde explained that this membership drive happens every five to six years as per party rules, requiring all current members to renew their memberships.
The BJP aims to sign up ten crore new members, excluding states with upcoming elections. The first phase of the drive will be from September 2 to September 25. After a one-week break, the second phase will run from October 1 to October 15.
Tawde also noted that the BJP became the world’s largest political party in 2014, surpassing the Communist Party of China. He added that the 2019 campaign was shortened due to Covid-19 restrictions.
