Kangana Ranaut’s film faces ongoing controversy, leading to a delay in its release date. The film has not yet received a certification from the CBFC due to persistent protests. A decision on whether the film will release on September 6 will be made today.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the film’s producer, has gone to the Bombay High Court to request a censor certificate.
Kangana plays Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, which has triggered protests in Punjab. Sikh organizations, including Shiromani Akali Dal, have called for a ban on the film. They accuse the filmmakers of distorting Sikh history and offending the Sikh community.
The petition claims that the CBFC is illegally delaying the certification. According to the lawyer, the censor board has prepared the certificate but has not issued it. The petition is being heard by Justice BP Colabawala and Firdosh Pooniwala.
The film portrays the 21-month emergency period in India from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977. Kangana is also the director and producer of the film.
