The central government has responded to the letter West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the misbehavior and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.
Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi replied to Mamata’s letter, suggesting that it appears to be an attempt to cover up delays in the investigation process. In her letter, Mamata requested stricter central laws and exemplary punishment for serious crimes like mischief and murder.
The central government has criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief’s letter. Annapurna Devi noted that the West Bengal government has not implemented an additional 11 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) to handle child sexual abuse cases.
She stated that the information in Mamata’s letter on this matter is factually incorrect and appears to cover up the delay in setting up the FTSC.Notably, on Friday, Mamata sent a second letter to the central government, asking for stricter central laws and severe punishment for crimes like mischief and murder.
