Chinmay Krishna Das Arrest Sparks Protests and Violence in Bangladesh

ISKCON may face major restrictions. A ban may be announced. Preparations are underway. An appeal has also been filed in the NY High Court.

The neighbouring country of Bangladesh is currently in turmoil. Hindus are continuously attacked. Not only that, the temple has also been vandalized. Following the arrest of ISKCON Pundarika cleric Chanmay Krishna Lord Das, plans are underway to ban ISKCON. An appeal has also been filed in the Bangladesh High Court.

Meanwhile, the Yunus government of Bangladesh has declared ISKCON as a religious fundamentalist organization. The Attorney General of Bangladesh said in the High Court that this is the main agenda of the government and necessary preparations have been started for it. This means that ISKCON will be banned soon.

On a petition filed against ISKCON, the High Court sought information from the Attorney General of Bangladesh about ISKCON and how it was established in Bangladesh.

On this, the Attorney General said that this organization is not a political party. It is a radical organization. The government is investigating it. The High Court then directed the Attorney General to present the government’s case on ISKCON and explain the legal situation in the country by Thursday morning. The court directed the government to ensure that the legal system of the country is not disturbed further.

It should be said that Chinmay Krishna Das was arrested on November 25 by the law enforcement agencies of Bangladesh on charges of treason. Later, the Bangladesh court denied him bail and sent him to jail. Following this, supporters of Chinmay Das took to the streets and started violent protests. At least 10 people, including journalists, were injured in clashes with security personnel.
