Heavy rains have caused severe flooding in Northern Odisha, hitting Baliapal, Vograi, Jaleswar, and Basta blocks of Balasore District. The Golden Line River has overflowed, flooding large areas and pushing water into villages, forcing residents to stay indoors.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will assess the flood situation in Balasore today. He will leave Bhubaneswar airport at 9:30 am by helicopter and will fly over the Baliapal and Vograi valleys. After the aerial survey, he will land at Padmavati Park’s temporary helipad at 11:00 am, where he will meet local officials, including the District Magistrate and SP, to discuss relief operations.
Villagers are using boats to navigate their flooded areas and collect essential supplies. Water has submerged roads and farmlands, covering thousands of hectares. The rising Bhudhabalang and Jalka Rivers have caused panic among residents near the riverbanks.
In Mayurbhanj District, heavy rains have raised river levels in Rasgobindpur, Morada, Shulwanpada, and Chittara. The Chengua Manlaspur Dam in Lada Sahi Block’s Bhimda Panchayat has broken, flooding hundreds of hectares of land. The Bhudhabalang, Baitarani, Subarnekha, and Jalka rivers continue to rise due to ongoing rains, escalating the flood crisis.
