Cyclone Dana is currently striking the Odisha coast, transforming from a sea storm into a fierce land threat. It is projected to make landfall between Inner Kanika and Dhamara tonight and tomorrow morning. After landfall, the cyclone’s trajectory may slightly recurve.
Regional Meteorological Department Director Manorama Mohanty shared crucial updates during a media discussion today. Cyclone Dana is now located 260 km southeast of Paradip and 290 km south-southeast of Dhamra, moving in a northwesterly direction. Over the past six hours, the storm has been advancing at a speed of 15 km per hour in a north-northwest direction.
Mohanty confirmed that Cyclone Dana will intensify and is expected to pass near Inner Kanika and Dhamara between tonight and tomorrow morning. After making landfall, it may shift slightly to a west-southwest trajectory.Wind speeds in Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara districts are forecasted to reach 100 to 120 km per hour during landfall. The cyclone poses risks of high tides, uprooting trees, damaging power poles, and destroying houses.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated across various locations over the next two days.The following alerts have been issued:Red Alert: Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak ,Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar (for tomorrow).Orange Alert: Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul.Orange Alert: Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar.Yellow Alert: Sundergarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur (for the 26th).
