A horrifying incident occurred in Nuapada district, where a father killed his 14-month-old son and slashed the throat of his 10-year-old daughter. The victims have been identified as Chandan Majhi (14) and Kamalakanti Majhi (10).
Majhi, a resident of Kutiapada village under Boden police station, had frequent disputes with his wife Jayanthi. Yesterday, the couple had another argument, which escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Majhi assaulted his wife, causing her to flee to her father’s house. Their three children remained in the home.
Afterwards, Majhi took all three of his children into the forest. His middle daughter managed to escape halfway through. He continued into the forest with his younger son and older daughter. Majhi gave his son water laced with drugs, causing the child to fall asleep. He then drowned his son in a nearby river before cutting his daughter’s throat with a knife.
Villagers, who were alerted to the situation, rushed to rescue the girl and brought her to the hospital in critical condition. They also apprehended Majhi near the forest and handed him over to the police. The authorities have detained Majhi and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
