Flipkart has issued an apology following backlash over a controversial promotional video. The popular online shopping platform faced criticism for portraying husbands as lazy, unlucky, and foolish in the ad.
In the lead-up to its ‘Big Billion Days Sale,’ running from today until October 6, Flipkart shared an animated video promoting the sale. The video depicted women shopping for bags and hiding their purchases from their husbands, suggesting that they should buy multiple bags without their husbands noticing.
The NCM India Council for Main Affairs raised objections, labeling the ad misleading. They shared the video on social media, prompting Flipkart to delete it. The group expressed hope that Flipkart would ensure such content does not appear again.
In response, Flipkart acknowledged the backlash, deleted the video, and clarified that it was posted in error. The company assured customers that it would take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
