Heavy rain has flooded Malkangiri district, leaving several areas under 5 to 6 feet of water. Key roads are blocked, and steep slopes make movement impossible. Vehicles are stuck, and communication has been cut off in many parts of the district.
Floodwater is also blocking the Kalimela to Motu road. The MV-90 and MV-96 poles are underwater, cutting off Malkangiri from Koraput district. The national highway is completely submerged, stopping all travel between the two districts.
Several places, including Pangam, MV-7, Poteru, and Kankor Konda, are heavily flooded. Water has entered homes in the town, creating serious problems for residents.
Every year, Malkangiri faces these challenges during the rainy season. Many areas get cut off, and people struggle for food and shelter. Although the administration helps by evacuating people and providing food, there is no permanent solution. People are increasingly frustrated as no lasting measures have been put in place to prevent these issues during the rains.
