Hindu Teachers in Bangladesh Pressured to Resign

Following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and exit from Bangladesh, religious minorities, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, are being targeted. Reports reveal that 49 teachers from these groups have been forced to resign due to rising violence.

Bangladesh Chhatra Oikya Parishad, the student wing of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, shared this news at a press conference at Jatia Press Club. Coordinator Sajib Sarkar said that since Hasina’s government fell, minorities have faced severe violence.

Sarkar reported attacks on Hindus, looting, assaults on women, vandalism of temples, arson, and even murders. Minority teachers have also experienced harassment. By August 30, 49 teachers had been forced to resign, though 19 have been reinstated.

Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 amid major student protests, which resulted in over 400 deaths. After her resignation, she left the country. Since then, Hindu families have faced violence and vandalism at 278 locations across 48 districts.

Interim Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has called for an end to violence against Hindus and promised to uphold the constitution. However, the situation remains troubling with little visible change.
