Family members forbade their son from marrying outside their caste, leading to a tragic situation in the Sukinda area of Jajpur district. Sushilmay Singh Samantha was allegedly killed by his family after he asked for money. His wife, Vijayalakshmi Sahu, has lodged a serious complaint regarding the incident.
According to Vijayalakshmi, Sushil’s parents abandoned him after his marriage to her. They later conspired to call him home, where they allegedly killed him and pushed his body into a well. The couple had married despite opposition due to their caste differences, and after their marriage, Vijayalakshmi faced hostility from her in-laws.
Vijayalakshmi stated that after their marriage, they lived in a rented house and had a 4-year-old son together. Sushil had been working as a security guard in Bangalore and returned home recently. In her complaint, Vijayalakshmi alleged that Sushil’s family had borrowed over two lakh rupees from him, which prompted him to ask for the money back. This request sparked a disagreement, as his family avoided repaying him.
Last Monday, Sushil went to his family’s house to request the money again but did not return home. The next day, authorities found his body in a well near his parents’ house. Vijayalakshmi filed a complaint at Sukinda police station, naming Sushil’s father, mother, five sisters, and an uncle as suspects.
The police opened a case and began their investigation, but Sushil’s family has been missing for eight days. Concerns have arisen over the police’s inability to trace or apprehend them. Frustrated, Vijayalakshmi questions where she can seek justice, as the incident has sparked significant discussion in the Sukinda area. Meanwhile, the police have declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
