Hopes have risen for a resolution to the India-China border dispute as the standoff over patrolling on the LAC (Line of Actual Control) has ended after four years. India and China have reached a compromise on patrolling in East Ladakh.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri announced that both countries have come to an agreement. He stated, “Discussions have been ongoing for a long time to resolve this issue between the two countries.” After repeated discussions, the two nations have finally agreed to cease patrolling. These talks have opened the door for troop withdrawals from the LAC and the resolution of the 2020 conflict.
In 2020, a dispute arose between the Indian and Chinese armies regarding patrolling, leading to a severe clash at Galwan, which resulted in the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers. The disagreement intensified over which country could patrol which areas along the LAC.
As tensions escalated, both countries increased their military presence and weaponry along the border. Several rounds of Corps Commander-level meetings and diplomatic talks occurred to find a solution. Ultimately, India and China have reached a compromise.
