Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Ganesh Puja at Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s residence, sparking controversy and raising concerns about judicial independence. Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut criticized the visit, stating it could lead the public to question the neutrality of the judiciary.
Raut voiced concerns that the Chief Justice’s participation in the ceremony might create doubts about the Supreme Court’s impartiality. He also challenged the court’s handling of several cases and highlighted delays in addressing issues in Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Delhi.
Raut shared a photo of the event and urged people to scrutinize the implications of the visit. He claimed that the celebration, framed as a cultural event, might undermine judicial integrity.

Supporters of the Prime Minister defended the visit as a cultural tradition rather than a political gesture. They emphasized that the visit was part of Ganesh Puja celebrations, not an attempt to influence the judiciary.
Following the event, PM Modi posted a video on social media showing his participation in the puja at the Chief Justice’s home. This has fueled further debate over the intersection of politics and judiciary in India .
