Justice Sanjeev Khanna will take oath as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court today. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him. The oath-taking ceremony will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am.
Justice DY Chandrachud retired as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court yesterday. After him, Justice Khanna is going to take oath as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Then his tenure will be only 6 months. His tenure will end on May 13 next year.
Justice Khanna started working as a lawyer in 1983 with registration in the Delhi Bar Council. First, he started practice in Hazari Complex District Court. Later advocated in the High Court. He worked as Senior Standing Counsel of the Delhi Income Tax Department till 2004.
Worked as Assistant Public Prosecutor in Delhi High Court. Later appointed as amicus curiae. Appointed Additional Judge of Delhi High Court in 2005. Appointed as a permanent judge in 2006. He became a Supreme Court judge in 2019.
