Kolkata Knight Riders have enlisted Phil Salt, an English cricketer, to fill the void left by his compatriot Jason Roy, who withdrew from the IPL citing personal reasons. Salt, who previously represented Delhi Capitals, will embark on his second IPL season.
Aged 27, Salt, who remained unsold during the auction, has been acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders at his reserve price of Rs 1.5 crore. According to an IPL media release, the franchise formally announced Salt’s inclusion as Roy’s replacement for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Known for his aggressive batting style and wicket-keeping skills, Salt showcased his prowess by scoring back-to-back centuries in T20Is against the West Indies in December of the preceding year. His 48-ball century during the fourth T20I in Trinidad also stands as one of England’s joint-fastest centuries in the format.
