Love Jihad Incident: Sameer Mansoor Arrested After Threatening Victim with Intimate Video

The incident of love jihad in the capital has sparked widespread discussion. The police detained the main accused, Sameer Mansoor, yesterday and arrested him today. They conducted a medical checkup on the accused before proceeding with the court hearings.

In a press conference today, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra revealed that although the accused’s home is in Champaran, Bihar, he was working as an electrician in Kashmir. He met the victim through an online game. To gather strong evidence against him, the police seized his two mobiles, Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other documents. The police have sent the mobiles to the forensic lab, where experts will analyze them to provide concrete evidence.

The DCP explained that Sameer Mansoor kept his identity hidden while maintaining contact with the victim. In March 2024, Sameer travelled to Odisha and stayed in a hotel room with the victim in Puri, where she discovered his real name. When the victim tried to escape, Sameer threatened her with violence and forced her to convert and marry him. He is accused of forcing her into physical relations. Afterwards, the victim managed to flee the hotel and return home. The DCP confirmed that the victim underwent a medical examination.

Seeking revenge, Sameer uploaded an intimate video of the victim to Instagram and sent it to her father. He also threatened to upload the video to a porn site unless they paid him 5 lakh rupees. Fearing public shame, the victim’s family complied.

The victim later filed a written complaint at the Bhubaneswar Women’s Police Station. The police then set a trap to apprehend Sameer. The victim agreed to the marriage proposal and called him to Odisha. As a result, when Sameer arrived, the police were prepared to arrest him, said the DCP.

Additionally, the police have started investigating Sameer’s past, including identifying other young women he may have had relations with and whether he threatened them to convert. They will also visit hotels in Puri where Sameer stayed with the victim and question the hotel management. If the hotels allow Sameer to stay with fake certificates, they will face strict action.
