The low pressure over the Bay of Bengal caused rainfall this morning and will intensify into a storm tomorrow, according to the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre.
The weather center reported that the well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal developed into a depression today. It currently centers over the east-central Bay of Bengal, 730 km from the Paradip coast and 779 km south-southeast of West Bengal’s sea island. It will move west-northwest and intensify further.
By tomorrow, the system will turn into a storm over the East Central Bay of Bengal. The possible storm ‘Dana’ will likely strengthen into a severe storm by the morning of the 24th. It will cross the coast between Odisha’s Puri and West Bengal’s Sagar Island between the night of the 24th and the morning of the 25th.
Wind speeds will likely reach 100-110 km/h, with gusts of up to 120 km/h, when the storm hits the coast. As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall will affect 14 districts, with very heavy rain expected in certain areas, according to the forecast.
