A train accident occurred last night when the Sabarmati Express (Train No. 19168), traveling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad, derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen station. Fortunately, there are no reports of casualties.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav addressed the incident via Twitter, stating, “At 2:35 am, the Sabarmati Express engine collided with an object on the track, causing the derailment near Kanpur. We have preserved evidence and marks on the train. The Intelligence Bureau and UP Police are investigating. No injuries have been reported among passengers or staff. Alternative train arrangements have been made for passengers heading to Ahmedabad.”
Additional District Magistrate Rakesh Verma reported that 22 bogies of the Sabarmati Express had derailed. A passenger described the scene to PTI, saying, “As soon as the train left Kanpur station, there was a loud noise, and the coach began to shake. I was terrified, but the train stopped.”
Train Cancellations and Route Changes:
Train 04143 (Khajuraho-Kanpur Central), starting on 17.08.24, will be partially canceled at Banda.
Train 04144 (Kanpur Central-Khajuraho), starting on 17.08.24, will depart from Banda.
Route Change:
Train 05326 (Lokmanya Tilak Term-Gorakhpur), starting on 16.08.24, will travel via Jhansi-Gwalior-Bhind-Etawah-Kanpur Central instead of the usual route.
