Mayonnaise Banned in Telangana After Fatal Food Poisoning Linked to Momos

The Telangana government’s ban on serving mayonnaise with momos may disappoint food lovers due to health concerns. The Telangana government enforced this ban after a 31-year-old woman tragically died and over 40 others fell ill in Hyderabad last Tuesday after consuming momos. Health department inspections revealed that these momos came from more than six different shops around the city, and a single supplier provided them with the mayonnaise. The police have since detained six individuals linked to the contaminated products.

Following several incidents of food poisoning, the food safety department conducted thorough tests on both momos and mayonnaise samples. Results indicated that raw eggs, often used in mayonnaise, could be the source of contamination, as they carry a higher risk of food poisoning. Responding to these findings, the Telangana government immediately prohibited mayonnaise usage with momos in the state, effective from today, with this restriction set to continue for an extended period.
