The death toll rose to 14 when a Navy speedboat rammed a ferry carrying tourists near the Mumbai Gateway of India on Wednesday afternoon. Rescue teams recovered another body yesterday, though the victim’s identity remains unknown.
The accident occurred near the Mumbai Gateway of India on Wednesday afternoon when the Nilkamal ferry, carrying over a hundred passengers and five crew members, was en route to Elephanta Island.
While navigating the middle sea near Uran, Karanj, a Navy speedboat suddenly collided with the ferry. According to the Navy, the speedboat lost control due to an engine failure during a trial, leading to the crash. The police have filed an FIR against the driver of the Navy speedboat in connection with the incident.
Rescue efforts have sent 105 injured people to five hospitals in Mumbai, with more than 90 of them reported to be recovering.
