Rising Water Levels Prompt Action at Hirakud Dam

The water level at Hirakud Dam is going up due to heavy rain in the upper areas. To manage this, six more gates were opened today, making a total of 20 gates now open. The dam is releasing 3 lakh cubic feet of water per second.

The current water level in Hirakud Reservoir is 621.97 cubic feet, and 3 lakh 59 cusecs of water are flowing in every second. In response, 2 lakh 59 cusecs of water are being released from the reservoir every second.

The district administration has warned people in the Talwa area to stay alert as the gates at Hirakud Dam are opened. However, officials say there is no immediate risk of flooding in the wetlands.

With the possibility of more rain, the water level at Hirakud Dam might continue to rise. If more than 20 gates are opened, there could be a risk of flooding in the wetlands.
