Monsoon rains are unleashing severe flooding and landslides across Nepal. Reports indicate that heavy rains have claimed over 112 lives, with 68 individuals still missing. Many regions, including Kathmandu, are underwater, prompting ongoing rescue efforts.
Dan Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for the Nepal Police, confirms the death toll and states that 36 people have suffered injuries. In response, authorities have deployed around 3,000 security personnel to assist in affected areas. Rescue teams are evacuating residents using helicopters and motorboats.
Landslides block national highways at eight locations, causing significant traffic disruptions. The rising water levels in the Koshi and Gandak rivers flood homes nearby. Due to these conditions, 150 flights from Kathmandu have been canceled on Friday.
