On Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan ran four runs in a rare Test cricket scenario. Shakeel drove a ball from Nahid Rana towards mid-off. Shoriful Islam got his hand on the ball, slowing it down. Although he stopped the ball from reaching the boundary, Shakeel and Rizwan managed to run four runs between the wickets.
The ball ended up near the long-off boundary, prompting Najmul Hossain Shanto to run from mid-on to retrieve it. This gave the batters enough time to complete the four runs. Rizwan, looking tired, threw his gloves and bat on the ground to catch his breath.
Pakistan faced a tough start on Day 2 after losing four wickets on Day 1. Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Babar Azam all failed to score double digits, and Saim Ayub was out for 57. However, Shakeel and Rizwan each scored half-centuries, helping Pakistan recover.
Shoriful Islam (2-30) and Mahmud (2-33) put pressure on Pakistan after a 230-minute delay due to a wet outfield from overnight rain. Shoriful dismissed Shan Masood for six and Babar Azam for a duck, leading to Pakistan’s recovery on a green pitch.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto quickly chose to bat after winning the toss. Pakistan was at 81-3 by tea. Mahmud took the first wicket, dismissing Abdullah Shafique, who was caught by Zakir Hasan for two. Shoriful then had Masood caught behind after a successful review, and Azam was dismissed by a leg-side delivery caught by wicketkeeper Liton Das, marking his first home duck in 14 Tests.
